Biographical note: Sculptor Richard Stankiewicz was most closely associated with the Assemblage movement. He served in the U.S. Navy 1941-1947, then studied with Hans Hofmann at the Hoffman School in New York City, and with Fernand Leger and Ossip Zadkine in Paris. After he returned to the United States, he began to create assembled sculptures using scrap metal and discarded mechanical and household equipment.
